Founded 60 years ago, Chime supports Deaf and Hard of Hearing people living in Ireland through core services that include care, technology and advice and information services. Our social groups, technical experts and dedicated centres create a community of inclusivity that helps Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to feel valued and supported. The Role
Chime is seeking a new board member with considerable Finance experience. Candidates will be experienced, senior finance professionals, ideally with an industry background and strong professional training. Applications from Directors and Partners in Practice are also welcomed.
This a voluntary role for a senior leader who can bring sound judgement, practical experience, and a hands-on and proactive mindset to support the charity.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Board, you will work collaboratively with fellow Trustees and the executive team to:
· Advise and guide the board on all financial matters
· Provide financial oversight and governance
· Evaluate and monitor the adequacy of Finance and Governance policies and procedures and ensure the organisation is compliant with best practice principles
· Approve and oversee the annual budget
· Ensure compliance with charity law and regulations
· Identify and monitor financial risks
· Provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge to the executive team
· Support the development and delivery of the charity’s strategic priorities
· Act as a critical friend: supportive, engaged, and willing to challenge appropriately where needed
· Act as an ambassador for the charity and support wider stakeholder engagement where appropriate
· Be open to offer advice on areas of expertise with the board and management
Qualities and skills required
We are seeking an experienced senior Finance leader with:
· An understanding of not-for-profit financial operations
· Financial expertise: A qualified accountant, ideally with an industry background and strong professional training. Applications from Directors and Partners in Practice are also welcomed.
· Familiarity of SORP standards and Charities Regulator requirements would be an advantage
· Extensive experience of audit and risk management: understanding of internal controls, risk frameworks and compliance
· Significant senior leadership experience, ideally gained in a corporate, commercial or similarly complex organisational environment
· Strong strategic judgement and the ability to see both the bigger picture and practical implications
· Experience operating at board, executive or senior leadership level
· Confidence to ask difficult questions, offer constructive challenge, and support robust decision making
· Commitment to Chime’s mission and values

Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Trustee
· Comply with the charity’s governing document
· Ensure the charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit
· Act in the best interest of the charity
· Act with reasonable care and skill
· Manage the assets of your charity
Board Meetings
There are six board meetings a year. Meetings are typically held on Monday evenings from 6.00 pm to 8.30 pm in North Frederick Street, Dublin 1.
Each trustee is expected to join a board sub-committee. Sub-committees usually meet six times a year for 1 to 2 hours.
There is an annual AGM and one strategic planning meeting annually.
