Governance Leadership Role

Ballina Dragons Meitheal Abhainn (BDMA) is a registered Irish charity seeking an experienced, governance-competent Chairperson to lead its Board of Trustees.

This is a senior governance role requiring proven board leadership experience and a strong working knowledge of charity regulation and fiduciary responsibility.

This position is focused on governance, compliance, and structured board leadership — not operational delivery.

Essential Requirements (Mandatory)

Applicants must demonstrate:

• Proven experience as a Board Chairperson

• Previous service as a Trustee / Board Member within a charity or not-for-profit organisation

• Strong understanding of charity law, fiduciary duties, and the Charities Governance Code

• Experience chairing formal board meetings and ensuring structured decision-making

• Ability to provide independent oversight and uphold governance boundaries

Core Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Board in accordance with charity law

• Ensure full regulatory compliance and adherence to governance standards

• Oversee strategic planning, risk management, and organisational accountability

• Maintain clear separation between governance and operational activity

• Promote collective responsibility and effective board performance

Time Commitment

• Approx. 6–8 hours per month

• 8–10 Board meetings annually (evening schedule)

• Occasional strategic or ambassadorial engagement

This is a voluntary, unpaid position.
