Title: Chairperson, African Caribbean Irish Owned Chambers of Commerce
Job Summary:
The Chairperson provides strategic leadership and oversight for the African Caribbean Irish Owned Chambers of Commerce. They are responsible for guiding the organization's vision, mission, and objectives, and ensuring effective governance and management. The Chairperson works closely with the Board of Directors and the Executive Director to advance the interests of African Caribbean Irish-owned businesses and promote economic development within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the organization, in alignment with its mission and values
- Preside over all Board of Directors meetings and the Annual General Meeting
- Work collaboratively with the Board to set policies, goals, and priorities for the organization
- Oversee the work of the Executive Director and ensure effective management of the organization
- Represent the organization externally and serve as the primary spokesperson
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government, community organizations, and business partners
- Promote the organization and its activities to attract new members and sponsors
- Ensure the organization's compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements
- Lead the Board in evaluating the organization's performance and identifying areas for improvement
Qualifications and Skills:
- Extensive experience in business leadership, preferably within the African Caribbean Irish community
- Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing African Caribbean Irish-owned businesses
- Proven track record of effective governance and strategic planning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build consensus and navigate complex stakeholder relationships
- Demonstrated commitment to the organization's mission and the economic empowerment of the African Caribbean Irish community
- Familiarity with the local and regional business environment, as well as relevant government policies and programs
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse Board of Directors and manage competing priorities
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
