Chair of Project ESPWA
Project ESPWA is entering a defining chapter in its journey, and we are seeking a Chairperson who can help guide our organisation into its next era of impact, integrity, and growth.
With the current Chairperson and several long‑serving board members completing their terms this year, we are preparing for a thoughtful, well‑managed transition. To support this process, we are inviting expressions of interest for a voluntary Chairperson‑designate — ideally someone based in Cork or with strong ties to the region — who can help steward this transition and shape the future of our governance.
Come and meet us at the Cork Boardmatch event on April 23rd in Clayton Hotel, Lapps Quay, Cork from 5.30pm.
This is a pivotal leadership role. The Chairperson‑designate will:
- Support the rotation and succession of long‑serving directors as they move into a newly formed Patron Support Group
- Help recruit new trustees who will bring fresh expertise, energy, and oversight
- Strengthen our governance structures to ensure continuity, transparency, and long‑term sustainability
- Champion our mission and values at a time when humanitarian needs are growing worldwide.
About Project ESPWA
Project ESPWA is a registered Irish humanitarian NGO, entirely volunteer‑run. Every euro donated goes directly to communities in crisis. Our model is simple but powerful: rapid, transparent, accountable aid delivered by ordinary people determined to make an extraordinary difference.
“Espwa” means hope in Haitian Creole — a word that captures both the practical support we deliver and the deeper belief that communities can rise when given the tools, dignity, and solidarity they deserve.
Our Mission
To deliver life‑changing aid to communities in crisis with compassion, efficiency, and dignity.
To respond rapidly to urgent needs while building sustainable systems that last.
To empower volunteers and communities alike, proving that meaningful change begins when ordinary people decide to act.
We do more than deliver aid — we build resilience, restore dignity, and create pathways to long‑term recovery.
Our Vision
A world where communities receive aid quickly, transparently, and compassionately.
A world where everyday people — volunteers, neighbours, families — are the driving force behind humanitarian action.
A world where smarter, more sustainable systems of aid replace waste, delay, and bureaucracy.
Our Values
- Dignity: Every person deserves respect, compassion, and care.
- Minimal Overheads: No salaries. No admin costs. Every cent goes to humanitarian aid.
- Transparency & Impact: Every step is tracked, documented, and shared.
- Volunteer‑Powered: Every campaign, container, and delivery is driven by unpaid volunteers.
The Chairperson Role
This is a voluntary, non‑executive leadership position suited to someone who believes in humanitarian action and understands the importance of strong governance.
We are particularly interested in individuals with:
- Experience in corporate governance
- Familiarity with the Charities Regulator’s Governance Code
- A commitment to accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership
- A genuine interest in humanitarian work and community‑driven impact
If you have the experience, the passion, and the desire to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of Project ESPWA, we would be delighted to hear from you.
This is more than a governance role — it is an opportunity to help safeguard a mission built on hope, dignity, and the power of people helping people.
