The Mission: Driving Financial Sustainability for Mental Health
In 2025, Helplink Mental Health delivered almost 9,000 counselling sessions in-person in the West of Ireland and nationally online. As we continue to scale our impact, we are seeking a Finance Trustee to join our Board and provide the strategic oversight necessary to ensure our long-term growth and stability.
We are looking for a qualified finance professional based in the West of Ireland who can move beyond the numbers to help us navigate the financial complexities of an expanding non-profit.
The Role: Strategic Financial & Risk Leadership
This is a voluntary, high-impact position. You will act as one of he Board’s leads on financial integrity, ensuring that every Euro we raise is optimised to provide the best possible mental health outcomes. Your core responsibilities will include:
• Financial Stewardship: Overseeing the organisation’s financial performance against targets and helping shape our annual budgets.
• Strategic Advice: Providing expert guidance and mentoring to the Executive Director and Board on financial planning, cost-benefit analysis, and resource allocation.
• Risk & Governance: Joining the Finance, Governance & Risk Sub-Committee to ensure robust internal controls and compliance.
• Audit & Reporting: Supporting management and external accountants in the preparation of annual financial statements and ensuring we remain audit-ready for our AGM.

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a commercially-minded financial leader with:
• Professional Credentials: A background in Accountancy (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) or senior Financial Control.
• Strategic Vision: An ability to interpret complex financial data and translate it into actionable strategic advice for a non-expert Board.
• Sector Interest: A passion for the non-profit sector and an understanding of the unique financial challenges within the charity landscape.
• Commitment: Availability for 10 Board meetings per year (a mix of in-person in Galway and remote), plus subcommittee work.
• Note: Prior experience as a Treasurer is a plus, but not essential.
