Board Member Digital, AI & Data Expert

Role Purpose 

We are seeking a Board Member with expertise in digital innovation, AI, and data to support the organisation’s digital landscape and ensure responsible, effective use of technology to maximise impact. 

Board Members play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring financial sustainability, and maintaining strong governance. Board members act collectively in the best interests of the organisation, contributing their expertise while supporting and constructively challenging the executive team. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Provide strategic oversight on our digital landscape and technology adoption 
• Advise on the ethical and effective use of AI and data 
• Support development of data-driven decision-making capabilities 
• Identify opportunities to improve services through digital innovation 
• Ensure appropriate governance around data protection and cybersecurity 

 Person Specification 

• Expertise in digital, data, AI, or technology strategy 
• Strong understanding of emerging technologies and their practical application 
• Ability to translate technical concepts into strategic insights 
• Experience in the non-profit or social impact sector 
• Knowledge of data governance and regulatory frameworks (e.g. GDPR) 
• Previous board or advisory experience 

 Commitment 

• Attend Board meetings (typically 4–6 per year) 
• Board Members are appointed for an initial term of three years 
• Participate in occasional strategy sessions or subcommittees (Governance & Risk, Strategy & Purpose and Finance)
