Membership on the board of the Carlow Volunteer Centre is an exciting opportunity to help govern and further develop the Volunteer Centre in the county. Carlow Volunteer Centre is committed to supporting volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations across the county.
We are keen to see representation on the board from individuals with close knowledge and experience with local volunteer involving and community organisations, the County Council, Public Participation Network, Local Development Companies, and the local corporate sector. We actively encourage county-wide representation and gender balance.

Summary of role
Carlow Volunteer Centre is seeking to recruit a new member of the board of directors. The trusteeship involves playing an active role in the organisation’s governance and strategic direction.
Role description
Every board member has the following responsibilities:
- Commitment to the development of the Carlow Volunteer Centre and support for its vision, mission, values and objectives
- Acting in the interests of Carlow Volunteer Centre at all time in relation to assets, property, statutory obligations and management requirements
- Where necessary deciding on strategic actions required to achieve Carlow Volunteer Centre’s objectives, ensuring that all activities are consistent with the organisation’s vision and core values
- Ensuring Carlow Volunteer Centre complies with relevant legal requirements
- Promoting prudent and effective management of organisational resources (financial and human)
- Formally registering conflicts of interest or loyalty with the board
- Not accepting gifts or gifts in kind in the capacity of trustee / board member
- At all times, acting with integrity and upholding the interests of the organisation
- Championing and promoting Carlow Volunteer Centre

Essential Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities:
- Creativity and ability to come up with fresh ideas and solutions to challenges
- Experience in strategic planning and service development
- An enquiring mind, with the confidence to challenge constructively
- Understanding of the community and voluntary sector landscape in County Carlow
- Recognition of the importance of supporting collective decisions
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Able to manage a wide variety of situations in a meeting and ensure that the outcomes are in the best interest of the organisation
