Board Director (Remote)

We are seeking a committed Director to join our Voluntary Board of Directors and help guide the future of EOPD.ie. This is a highly rewarding role, offering the opportunity to make a real difference for people living with Early Onset Parkinson’s across Ireland while contributing your skills, expertise, and experience to the growth and impact of our charity. 
 

Role and Responsibilities of the Board 

• Ensure EOPD.ie has an appropriate legal structure and governance framework. 
• Develop and oversee the charity’s overall vision, aims, and objectives alongside the Manager. 
• Make policy decisions and develop internal policies, procedures, and codes of practice. 
• Ensure staff, Board members, and volunteers comply with policies and procedures. 
• Fulfil all legal obligations and financial accountabilities. 
• Represent EOPD.ie positively in all engagements. 

Expectations of Board Members 

• Commit to the aims, objectives, policies, and codes of practice of EOPD.ie. 
• Actively support the charity’s work and promote its mission. 
• Attend and contribute to regular Board and subcommittee meetings. 
• Ensure that Board decisions are implemented effectively. 
• Maintain confidentiality and act in the best interests of the organisation. 
• Be familiar with the charity’s policies, procedures, and Strategic Plan. 

Board Meetings 

• The Board meets six times per year, meeting typically last one hour. 
• All meetings are held remotely via Microsoft Teams or Zoom. 
• Board Directors are not remunerated, but reasonable travel and subsistence allowances are provided. 
• Transparency and openness are essential; any potential conflicts of interest must be declared.

• Governance of voluntary, community, or non-profit organisations, or similar experience in other sectors 
• Financial management, fundraising, and securing grants 
• Legal or company governance 
• Business or project management 
• Engineering, architecture, or facilities management 
• Administration, change management, or human resources 
• Marketing or public relations 
• Medical or research sectors 

About EOPD Ireland
Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease CLG (EOPD.ie) was founded in December 2020 by people living with Early Onset Parkinson’s. The organisation was established to address the unique challenges faced by younger people diagnosed with Parkinson’s, such as managing careers, mortgages, and family responsibilities and dealing with the Stigma that comes with managing what people traditionally think of as an older person's disease.  

We are a remote-first organisation, enabling flexibility and accessibility for both our team and the community we serve. EOPD.ie has one Operations Manager, responsible for leading projects in awareness, advocacy, partnerships, and community supports, linking research, advocacy, and community to expand EOPD Ireland’s impact. 

Our Work 

• Advocacy – representing the interests and needs of people living with Early Onset Parkinson’s to policymakers, healthcare providers, and the wider public, to influence change and improve access to services. 
• Research Promotion – connecting the community to relevant studies and research opportunities. 
• Projects & Resources – developing and sharing practical tools and information on managing your diagnosis and wellbeing, your rights, social welfare entitlements etc. 
• Community & Support Services – providing networking opportunities, webinars, meetups, signposting to exercise and community classes.  
• Organisational Development – ensuring EOPD.ie operates effectively, sustainably, and in line with its mission. 

Strategic Priorities 

• Educate our members, supporters, and the public about Early Onset Parkinson’s and its unique challenges. 
• Advocate on behalf of our community to influence policy, healthcare, and social support. 
• Support people living with Early Onset Parkinson’s through networking, guidance, and practical resources. 
• Advise on research from an Early Onset Parkinson’s perspective, ensuring the community’s needs are represented.
