MART Gallery & Studios is an artist-led organisation founded in 2007, supporting contemporary visual artists through affordable studio provision, professional development, and public programming. MART operates major studio buildings in Dublin and works closely with local authorities and public partners.

MART is in the process of establishing MART Gallery & Studios CLG to support its long-term role in operating publicly owned buildings, strengthening governance, and positioning the organisation for sustainable public funding.

Role Overview

MART Gallery & Studios CLG is seeking committed and engaged individuals to join its Board of Directors. This is a non-executive, voluntary role focused on governance, strategic oversight, and long-term sustainability.

Board directors play a key role in supporting the organisation’s mission, safeguarding public benefit, and helping guide MART through its next phase of development.

Key Responsibilities

Board directors will be expected to:

• contribute to the strategic direction of MART Gallery & Studios CLG
• provide oversight of governance, finance and organisational risk
• act in the best interests of the organisation and its public benefit mission
• support and appropriately challenge the executive leadership
• ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations
• uphold MART’s values and artist-led ethos

Directors are not involved in day-to-day operations, staff management, or artistic programming.

Skills and Experience

MART welcomes applications from individuals with experience or interest in one or more of the following areas:

• governance and board experience
• finance, accounting or audit
• legal or compliance
• property, estates or facilities management
• public sector or local authority experience
• arts, culture or creative industries
• community engagement, access or inclusion

Previous board experience is welcome but not essential.

Time Commitment

• Approximately 4 board meetings per year
• Occasional additional meetings or working sessions
• Preparation and reading in advance of meetings

This role is voluntary and unremunerated.

Term

Directors are appointed for a fixed term or two years, with the possibility of renewal, in line with good governance practice.
