Skibbereen Community and Family Resource Centre is a community and family support service based in Skibbereen. We provide cradle to grave supports in our community responding to local needs, providing supports for individuals, families, parents, young people and older people.

Our vision is for a community where everyone is empowered to live life to their full potential. We provide a confidential service for people in the community to access support.

Skibbereen Community and Family Resource Centre was founded in 2007 to provide community and family supports to the rural catchment area of Skibbereen and its environs. The service is based in Skibbereen town.

The main functions of the organisation are:

  • Provision of a range of universal and targeted services
  • Promotion of developmental opportunities
  • Promotion of health and wellbeing
  • Responding to identified needs in the community
  • Provision of individual and family supports
  • Community participation and social inclusion
  • Supporting community groups

The programme of work is delivered across three main strands 

  1. Drop In and Information
  2. Family Support and 1-1 Support
  3. Programmes and activities from cradle to grave including:

New Parents & Babies, Toddler Group, Childrens Activities, Parent Support Groups, Youth Supports, Counselling, Art Therapy, Play Therapy, Active Retired Activities, Older People, LGBTI+ Supports, Community Groups, Health & Wellbeing Activities

We work closely with local community organisations and agencies. We provide rooms for rental/use in the community.

Skibbereen Community and Family Resource Centre is managed on a day to basis by a full time Co-ordinator who reports to the Board of Trustees and employs 4 staff.

The organisation is growing and we now require a broader range of skills at a board level to support the development and expansion of the centre.

We are seeking to appoint new Board Directors with experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Knowledge of the Sector
  • Communications and Marketing
  • Fundraising
  • Strategic development and implementation
  • Knowledge of building planning, design and construction
  • Finance & funding

Board meetings take place every six weeks at Skibbereen Community and Family Resource Centre, North Street, Skibbereen and on Zoom (Hybrid). There are 6-8 board meetings per year.
