First Fortnight

Not-For-Profit Information

First Fortnight is a charity that challenges mental health prejudice through arts and cultural action.  We aim to make the First Fortnight of each year synonymous with mental health awareness, challenging prejudice and ending stigma. We strive to create a consistent space in the cultural calendar with our annual mental health arts festival where citizens can be inspired through arts events and experiences to talk about mental health issues in a non-scripted manner. We work to utilise unscripted conversation to change people’s perceptions about the ordinary experience of a mental health problem and the less ordinary experience of mental ill health.  First Fortnight delivers a new, audience focused, participatory, and artistic approach to tackling the stigma of mental health problems.

Since its inception in 2013 the First Fortnight Centre for Creative Therapies has provided unique and innovative interventions in mental health care for homeless and vulnerable communities in Dublin, ranging from art-psychotherapy, to drama and music therapy.

We are working on launching a new programme Music and Mind which extend creative therapies to children in 2020.  First Fortnight aims to provide free mental health care to the Cultural Sector and is lead partner in a new project which launches in May/June 2020.
