Not-For-Profit Information

Introduction

Badminton Ireland (a registered company limited by guarantee) is the National Governing Body for badminton for the 32 counties in Ireland. We work with the four Branches of Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster, along with external stakeholders including Sport Ireland, Sport NI, Olympic Council of Ireland, Irish Institute of Sport, Coaching Ireland, Federation of Irish Sports and the Local Sports Partnership network.

The Badminton Union of Ireland was founded in 1899, and incorporated in 2006, changing its name to Badminton Ireland. In 1934 Badminton Ireland was one of nine founding members of the International Badminton Federation (IBF), now known as the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Badminton Ireland is also a member of Badminton Europe, the Olympic Council for Ireland, Paralympics Ireland and the Federation of Irish Sport. Badminton has been an Olympic sport since 1992 and we’re proud of our Olympians – Sonya McGinn, Scott Evans and Chloe Magee. Badminton has been chosen as a Paralympic sport for the 2020 Olympics and we’re looking forward to having representatives qualify for the games.
