The NorthStar Family support Project provides support to families effected by a loved one’s drug/alcohol abuse.  
The service was established by community activists as a response to the high level of drug abuse and drug violence in the North side of Limerick city.  The service has grown over the past 11 years, moving to a new location in limerick city expanding its supports to all of limerick city and surrounding areas. The service currently employs 5 core staff funded through the Mid-West Drug and alcohol Forum via HSE. Consisting for 3 part time keyworkers, one part time administrator and one fulltime coordinator. The service also has two CE workers, 4 student counsellors, one Holistic Therapist. Providing a ranch of services from one to one support, peer support and educational groups, education and personal development programs etc ….      

The service is currently looking at expanding its reach through training past participants to support the service through volunteering. The day to day of the service is overseen by the coordinator and directed by the Board of Management
