Location: Remote, with occasional meetings (organisation based in Skibbereen, Co. Cork)
Commitment: Approx. [4–6] hours per month, including monthly board meetings
Remuneration: This is a voluntary, unpaid role. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed.

About us

hOUR Timebank CLG (RCN 20162023) is a registered Irish charity built on a simple idea: an hour of your time is worth an hour of anyone else's. Members give an hour helping a neighbour and earn an hour they can spend on help they need themselves. No money changes hands. We've been doing this in West Cork for over a decade.

At the end of 2025 we launched something bigger — a next-generation community platform with timebanking at its heart, built from scratch and released as open source. It's live, it works, and it's already drawing interest well beyond Ireland. We've partnered with Timebanking UK, who are helping bring public sector bodies and timebanking organisations in Britain onto the platform.

We have around 230 members in Ireland. We think that number should be a great deal higher, and we now have the technology to make that happen. What we need is people to help us push it.

Where we are honestly at

We have three directors. One works on this full time. That is not a sustainable board, and we're being upfront about it: we need more hands on deck, not more names on a letterhead.

What we're looking for

We're recruiting a voluntary director who can take real ownership in one or both of the following areas:

Treasurer. Oversight of our finances, budgeting, annual accounts, CRO and Charities Regulator compliance, and reporting to the board. A background in accountancy, bookkeeping or charity finance would be ideal, but practical competence matters more than letters after your name.

Grant funding. Someone who can identify, write and manage grant applications largely under their own steam. We have extensive documentation about what we do and the impact we have; we need someone who can turn that into funded applications. We'd particularly welcome someone comfortable using AI tools to work through our material and draft strong submissions quickly — we're a small organisation and leverage matters.

We'd also be glad to hear from you if you can bring social media and communications experience. It's a genuine gap for us and we know it.

What you'll get out of it

A seat on the board of a charity at a real inflection point — the technology is built, the partnerships are forming, and the next two years will decide how far this goes. Not a caretaker role. If you want a board position where your work visibly changes the outcome, this is one.
