Charity Trustee – Legal Role
The Organisation:
The Neurology Support Centre is a Sligo-based charity, serving those in the Northwest impacted by a neurological condition. Our mission is to provide a range of quality services, supports and activities that will improve the quality of life for all those impacted by a neurological condition; to advocate for improved neurology services locally and nationally; and to support the provision of clinical neurological services in our local hospitals.
Our member services include Peer Support Groups, Counselling, holistic therapies including Reflexology and Neuro-reflexology, and other recreational activities including Art, gardening, exercise, etc.
The Role:
The Neurology Support Centre is seeking to recruit a trustee with a legal background. The Board are particularly interested in individuals with recent and relevant commercial experience.
Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Trustee
- Comply with the Charity’s governing document
- Ensuring charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit
- Acting in the best interest of the charity
- Act with Reasonable Care and Skill
- Manage the assets of your charity
By being a trustee of The Neurology Support Centre, your responsibilities will include the following:
- Providing input to the strategic direction of the organisation and contributing with insight, oversight, and experience at board meetings and any additional commitments
- Policy development and implementation as required
- Assisting on legal aspects of the organisation
- Contributing to the development of strategic plans which comply with current legislation and best practice.
Desired Skills/Qualities required for these roles:
- An appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sector
- An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values
- Commitment to highest levels of corporate governance
- Interest or experience in fund-raising
- A relevant legal qualification, ideally with at least 5 years senior management experience. Expertise in areas such as Commercial / Employment Law would be an advantage.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to understand complex corporate governance issues and risk quickly.
Board Meetings:
There will be 4 board meetings and up to 4 sub-committee meetings a year. Meetings are generally held in Molloway House, Sligo but can be joined remotely also.
