Trustee with Governance and Compliance Experience
Objectives of the Role:
To ensure that DWCR operates in accordance with all relevant legal, regulatory, and best practice requirements. To provide oversight and leadership on matters of governance, compliance, and risk management, and to support the Board in upholding the highest standards of accountability and transparency.
Principal responsibilities:
- Lead on governance and compliance matters at Board level, ensuring adherence to the Charities Regulator, company law, and other statutory requirements.
- Advise the Board on the development, implementation, and review of governance policies, codes of conduct, and risk management frameworks.
- Monitor compliance with the charity’s governing document, regulatory filings, and reporting obligations.
- Support the Board and CEO in identifying, assessing, and mitigating organisational risks.
- Provide guidance on Board effectiveness, trustee induction, and ongoing training.

- Understanding of the respective roles of the Chair, Trustees, and Chief Executive.
Time commitments
- There are 6 board meetings per year, each lasting approximately 90 minutes. An online facility to attend meetings is available only in certain circumstances.
- There is one in-person AGM per year.
- There are additional sub-committee meetings, depending on the business need.
- Estimated monthly time commitment is 5-10 hours, plus board and committee meetings.
