The Organisation

My Project is a community based, not for profit organisation. My Project works with children, young people and their parents or guardians and are supported by a number of funders. My Project is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status and has a voluntary Board of Directors with a range of expertise across key areas such as accountancy, finance and governance.

My Project works in partnership with families and other professionals within the community with the welfare and wellbeing of children, young people and parents at the heart of everything they do. My Project welcomes contact from parents/guardians seeking supports and they accept referrals from other professionals in services such as Schools, Medical GP, Mental Health Services, Public Health Nurses, Addiction Services and many other support services.

My Project focuses on the family’s needs and encourage engagement from a strengths based perspective with the wants, needs and wishes of the family being central to any support planning. There is a clear focus on wellness, wellbeing and relationship development in encouraging a more positive and healthy home environment for children, young people and their parents or guardians. Families are supported to strengthen their support networks and to build on individual problem solving, resilience and effective coping skills.

The Role

My Project is currently seeking a Trustee with finance experience to join the board. This Trustee will play a key role in shaping the financial strategy of the organisation, ensuring long-term financial sustainability, and supporting My Project’s mission to provide vital services to supporting families.

 

Role requirements and key responsibilities of the Trustee with financial experience include:

  1. Financial Expertise and Board-Level Engagement
    The Trustee should be a qualified accountant. This background will facilitate effective engagement with board members, ensuring that financial insights are accurately represented and strategically integrated at the board level.
  2. Governance and Compliance Leadership
    The Finance Trustee’s oversight will help maintain transparency, accountability, and regulatory compliance across all financial practices.
  3. Financial Oversight and Cross-Functional Collaboration
    Working closely with the Project Manager, Office Administrator, the Finance Trustee will oversee and sign off on the financial reports and the monthly payroll report.
  4. Strategic Financial Planning for Organisational Growth
    The Finance Trustee will oversee the development of financial strategies, ensuring the organisation is well-positioned to secure funding that meets its needs.

 

Skills and Experience Required:

  1. Financial Expertise: The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant. Familiarity with not-for-profit financials is highly advantageous.
  2. Communication Skills: be required to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders, including the Project Manager, Office Administrator, Chairperson, and fellow Board members.
  3. Time Availability: The candidate must be able to dedicate sufficient time for Board meetings, as well as occasional events.
  4. Commitment to My Project’s Mission. Knowledge of the charity sector and an empathy for the impact of social disadvantage on families is desirable.
  5. Strategic Thinking: The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to think strategically.
  6. Compliance: A strong understanding of, and commitment to, ensuring the charity’s operations adhere to governance standards, such as the Charities Regulator's Governance Code and internal controls, is essential.

 

Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Trustee

  • Comply with the charity’s governing document.
  • Ensuring charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
  • Acting in the best interest of the charity.
  • Act with reasonable care and skill.
  • Manage the assets of the charity.

 

Board Meetings

The board meets six times a year, on Tuesdays at 17:00 PM. Meetings are typically 90 minutes in duration. All meetings are online using MS Teams. There are no board committees but there may be a requirement to attend informal meetings as required.
