Trustee with finance / accounting expertise
The Sick and Indigent Roomkeepers Society (SIRKS) is seeking to recruit a new Board member with finance and / or accounting expertise, to take part in running the charity and to advise the Board in relation to managing and reporting on its finances, income and expenditure. He or she would join the Board’s Finance sub-committee.
SIRKS, founded in 1790, is Dublin’s oldest charity. Our remit extends across Dublin city and county. Our core mission is to help people experiencing temporary hardship due to illness, unemployment or other unforeseen circumstances and who need assistance to get their lives back on track. We offer support by responding to applications submitted by qualified social workers attached to charities and hospitals.
This is a voluntary, non-executive role. The Board meets in person at our office in Dublin city centre once a month (except in August); sub-committees meet as required. Trustees take turns to decide applications up to €1,500 (larger applications are referred to the Board). The average time commitment is thus about 4 hours per month. The Board term is three years, which can be renewed.
We are looking for a Board member who would join the Finance sub-committee which is tasked with:
• Preparing the Board’s annual budget
• Reporting monthly to the Board on (a) income and expenditure in relation to that budget; and (b) the performance of our investment portfolio and on the status of our cash and bank assets
• Overseeing the Board’s internal audit function
• Liaising as appropriate with the Board’s stockbroker in relation to our investment portfolio
• Advising the Board generally in relation to financial issues.
The ideal candidate would:
• Be committed to supporting the work of SIRKS and its values (see www.sirkscharity.org)
• Have a financial or accounting qualification and / or experience in finance
• Ideally have prior experience as a Board member or involvement with a not-for-profit or charitable body.
