Trustee – Charity Compliance & Reporting (Volunteer)

Purpose of the Role

To support the Board of Trustees in meeting its statutory obligations and maintaining full compliance with the Charities Regulator (Ireland) and company reporting requirements.

This trustee helps ensure the charity remains transparent, accountable, and well-governed by guiding annual reporting, record-keeping and governance practices.

Key Responsibilities

Charity Regulator Compliance

  • Support trustees in meeting duties under the Charities Act 2009

  • Assist with completion and submission of the Annual Report to the Charities Regulator

  • Ensure accurate record-keeping aligned with regulatory requirements

  • Help maintain the charity’s Register of Charities compliance status

Governance Code

  • Support implementation of the Charities Governance Code

  • Monitor governance actions and compliance checklists

  • Assist trustees in evidencing good governance practices

Reporting & Documentation

  • Work with the Treasurer and Chairperson on:

    • Annual Report preparation

    • Activity reporting

    • Governance statements

  • Ensure documentation supports transparency and accountability

  • Help develop simple compliance systems and templates

Risk & Good Practice

  • Highlight potential regulatory risks early

  • Support preparation for audits or regulatory queries

  • Promote a culture of good governance rather than bureaucracy

Person Specification

We welcome interest from people with experience in:

  • Charity governance or trustee roles

  • Compliance or regulatory reporting

  • Preparing annual returns or regulatory submissions

  • Community or voluntary sector administration

Professional qualification not essential — practical experience valued.

Time Commitment

Approx. 3–5 hours per month
Additional time around annual reporting period
