Treasurer (Financial Director)

Role of the Board of Directors 

The Board of Directors are jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Cycle Against Suicide, its financial health and the probity of its activities in accordance with Cycle Against Suicide’s governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. 

Role Description Treasurer (Finance Director). 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities of the Director – Treasurer/Finance, will entail the following:  

  • Oversee the financial affairs of Cycle Against Suicide and ensure that they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practices. 

  • Ensure proper records are kept and that effective and appropriate financial procedures and controls are in place.  

  • Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation Oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits Report the financial position of Board meetings (balance sheet, cash flow etc). Oversee the timely production of annual budgets and propose its adoption by the Board of Directors. 

All Board of Directors have the following generic responsibilities:  

Contribute actively to the Board of Directors' role in giving strategic direction to the charity, setting overall strategy and policy and evaluating performance;  

Ensure the financial stability of Cycle Against Suicide and the proper investment of the Charity's funds;  

Ensure the Charity applies its resources exclusively in pursuing its objectives;  

Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the Charity;  

Safeguard the good name and values of the Charity;  

Declare any conflict of interest while carrying out the duties of a Director;  

Be collectively responsible for the actions of the Charity and other Board Members;  

Participate in other tasks as arise from time to time, such as interviewing new staff, helping with fundraising;  

Attend meetings and sub-committee meetings as appropriate and read papers in preparation for the meeting; 

Keep informed about the activities of the charity and wider issues which affect its work.

 Use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Directors reach sound decisions. This will involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, and providing advice and guidance requested by the Board on new initiatives, or other issues, to the area of Cycle Against Suicide's work in which the Director has special expertise.
