To ensure effective succession planning Shine is seeking applications from individuals with experience and background in the following areas:

  • Communications
  • Fundraising
  • Advocacy
  • Marketing

   General duties of board members:

  • Comply with the Charity Regulator’s Governance Code
  • Ensure the charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit
  • Acting in the best interest of the charity
  • Act with reasonable care and skill
  • Understand the financial position of the organisation and ensure that it operates within the agreed accounting policies
  • Provide input to the strategic direction of the organisation
  • Have a deep insight into all financial policies, accounting procedures and controls and propose any recommendations for change.
  • Have oversight of compliance and risk management in the organisation.
  • Advise and assist with the management of the Charity’s assets.

Desirable skills/expertise:

  • Excellent communication skills and commitment to the highest standards of governance
  • Understanding and knowledge of the not-for-profit sector
  • Knowledge of mental health sector either through personal or professional experience
  • Strong financial and business acumen and the ability to understand complex financial issues and risk quickly.
  • Governance skills including experience of strategic planning, organisational performance management and service development.

Additional duties specific to the Communications/ Fundraising:

  • Minimum five years’ professional experience in a Communications/ Fundraising/Marketing role
  • Providing general expertise and advice on all matters relating communications and fundraising.
  • Advise on the ongoing development of the organisation’s marketing, website and communications and fundraising strategies in conjunction with management and the Board
  • Dedicated to the organisation’s cause and objectives and willing to act as the charity’s ambassador to external bodies, charities and companies.

Additional information

Board meetings are held 6 times a year. These are held online and in person. Board packs are sent out one week in advance of meetings and Board members must read all materials in advance of meetings.

The Board role is unpaid, however reasonable expenses are paid in line with Shine’s expense policy.
