About the Organisation

The Centre for Environmental Living and Training (CELT) is a registered Irish environmental charity promoting sustainable living, nature conservation, traditional crafts, and non-formal adult education. Operating nationally but primarily in the Slieve Aughty region, CELT delivers practical workshops, community training, biodiversity initiatives, and flagship events like "Weekend in the Hills."

Role Overview

CELT is seeking a creative and strategic professional to join the Board of Directors to oversee our Marketing, Communications, and Income Generation portfolios. This role acts as the strategic Board liaison for operational delivery, steering brand presence, membership growth, and grant acquisition strategies.

Board & Operational Support

• Board Support: Supported directly by the Board Chair and Deputy Chair on strategic direction

• Operational Liaison: Works closely with contracted roles, primarily liaising with the Funding Coordinator to align income development strategies and the Events Coordinator to drive promotional campaigns for workshops and flagship events. Supported administratively by the contracted Board Secretary

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic guidance on CELT's public communications, digital brand presence, and promotional campaigns

• Steer income diversification strategies in collaboration with the contracted Funding Coordinator, helping identify public grant opportunities (e.g. LEADER, Heritage Council, CERV, Erasmus+) and philanthropic avenues

• Advise on CELT's social media presence and digital content strategy

• Support membership growth drives and promotional outreach for CELT's courses and events

• Oversee the development of a membership growth strategy for CELT

• Support the Board in developing earned income opportunities including the Weekend in the Hills Festival of Traditional Crafts

• Support the Events Coordinator on marketing initiatives, membership growth drives, and promotional outreach for CELT's courses and events

• Advise the Board on promotional campaigns and community engagement strategy

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Professional experience in marketing, digital communications, PR, fundraising, or grant development

• Experience with social media platforms and digital content creation

• Familiarity with public funding frameworks, donor engagement, or community sector communications in Ireland

• Knowledge of the Irish environmental or community sector an advantage

• Experience with earned income generation for charities

• Strong strategic vision and enthusiasm for environmental outreach, heritage crafts, and adult education

Time Commitment

• Monthly board meeting (approx. 1.5–2 hours, online/hybrid)

• Approximately 2–3 hours per month for campaign reviews, operational check-ins, and fundraising strategy input

• AGM June/July in person event 2 hours
