This is a mature board subcommittee with a number of external members, which operates at a strategic oversight and governance and risk level, and reports regularly to the Board of Directors.
General Duties of an External Committee Member
- Provide independent, objective expertise in the committee's specific area of focus to support deliberations and decision-making
- Offer constructive challenge and insight to ensure the committee adheres to its terms of reference and operates effectively
- Contribute to the evaluation and oversight of organisational processes relevant to the committee's remit
- Participate actively in committee meetings, maintaining confidentiality and declaring any potential conflicts of interest
- Stay informed about relevant developments in the committee's area of responsibility to enhance its effectiveness
Desirable experience:
We are seeking candidates with mid to senior-level experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Audit Expertise: Significant experience in internal or external auditing, preferably within large organisations or the public sector. This may include roles such as Audit Manager, Senior Auditor, or experience on audit committees. Familiarity with risk-based auditing approaches and financial control systems is highly desirable.
- Accountancy Proficiency: Substantial experience in accountancy, ideally as a qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with several years of post-qualification experience. This could include roles such as Financial Controller, Management Accountant, or Senior Accountant in complex organizations. Experience in financial reporting and financial analysis is particularly valuable.
- Financial Management: Proven track record in financial management at a mid to senior level. This may include experience in roles such as Finance Manager, Head of Finance, or Financial Director in medium to large organisations.
Committee Meetings:
Five to six committee meetings a year, three in-person in Clontarf and two/three online. Committee meetings take place on Thursdays between 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm.
