Hunt Museum Board Director - Fundraising & Marketing

The Organisation:

Halfway through our very exciting five year strategy, launched in 2019, we are continuing to integrate our three platforms of the Georgian building and our collections, the digital world and our networks and community.   We have a strategy for growth but our impacts are social and innovation oriented as well as economic. We wish to reflect the transparency and openness of the Hunt Museum also in the appointment of our Directors.

The Hunt Museum exhibits one of Ireland’s greatest private collections of Art and Antiquities, dating from the Neolithic Period to the 20th century. Generously donated by John and Gertrude Hunt to the people of Ireland, this diverse collection is now housed in Limerick’s 18th Century Palladian style building, formerly The Custom House. It operates on yearly business plans, moving towards the fulfilment of Strategy 2023.

The museum stages regular exhibitions to bring in new and repeat audiences.  Recent successes include: Belonging and Ride a Flying Fish.  For the rest of 2022 two artist exhibitions and a major new exhibition linked to ceramics in our permanent collection are scheduled.  It has recently expanded its online presence with concurrent online exhibitions, work with wikipedia and an enlarged social media following.

Looking forward we have several innovative projects from the expansion of Museum in a Garden, where objects escape our walls, reinvented as supersize versions of themselves, a programme to improve our accessibility for the visually impaired and the development of more interactive exhibits.   We also have a very successful and ambitious education programme and are looking to expand the museum offering of Limerick.

The Hunt Museum is a registered charity and operates as a not for profit enterprise.
