North Clare MHA are looking to fill the role of volunteer Chairperson of the Board to lead the volunteer members of the Board.  The next Chair will need to oversee and manage the growth and development of the organisation, be open to the development of new services and most importantly, work with the community of North Clare to achieve these aims.  The successful candidate will also need strong leadership skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, impartiality, fairness, and the ability to respect confidences. They will have the ability to ensure decisions are taken and followed-up, good timekeeping, tact, and diplomacy.  They will have a desire to grow the organisation and its service to the people of North Clare.

The responsibilities of the Chair are as follows:

The Chairperson has a strategic role to play by communicating effectively the vision and purpose of the organisation, to ensure the Board functions well, that there is full participation at meetings

To plan and Chair meetings in accordance with the governing document

To bring impartiality and objectivity to meetings and decision making

To ensure that decisions made at meetings are implemented

To be aware of current issues that might affect the organisation

To advocate for and represent the organisation at external meetings and events if required

Have a commitment to all legal and fiduciary responsibilities, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and best practice in company and charity governance

Attendance at North Clare MHA events and willingness to speak publicly about the work of the organisation

Advocate for North Clare MHA and the region of North Clare in building a strong working relationship with our key service partners and funders.

Good leadership skills

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences

Ability to ensure decisions are taken and followed-up

Good timekeeping

Tact and diplomacy

Understanding of the roles/responsibilities of a governing body

Background in Governance and knowledge of Company and Charity Law

Belief, enthusiasm and commitment for North Clare MHAs mission and values

3-5 years’ experience on the Board of a Charity or Not for Profit

Experience in the development or implementation of organisational strategy

A strong working knowledge of finance in order to fulfil the duties of a trustee

Willingness to support fundraising activities for North Clare MHA.

Comfortable working with standard IT Office applications and attending and managing in person, online and hybrid meetings

Prior experience as a Chair would be an advantage

Must live in the region of County Clare.

One board meeting per month.  Maximum 2 hours per meeting.  

Attendance at events and other meeting as necessary (no more than 4 hours per month maximum)
