The Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT), operating as the Irish Horse Welfare Trust Company Limited by Guarantee, is a leading equine welfare charity set up in 1999 to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home horses and ponies in Ireland. It operates from a 68 acre farm in Woodenbridge, Co Wicklow, is heavily invested in the education space and has developed particular expertise in Thoroughbred Retraining and Rehoming by promoting second careers for ex-racehorses.
Our vision is that the care and welfare of all equines, but in particular TB-type horses, is safeguarded in Ireland - a country of excellence in all aspects of equine care and well-being. Our mission is to ensure that the IHWT has a solid base and an evolving, ever strengthening remit to contribute positively to achieving this vision.
The IHWT has a current board comprising five persons with a range of expertise and experience including governance, finance, HR, PR, equestrian and veterinary. The Board seeks one or two more board directors with previous board experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for animal welfare, in particular equine, and a network of relevant contacts to help take this NGO forward in a post COVID-19 world.
