Southill Family Resource Centre (SFRC) is a community-led organisation based in Southill, Limerick, dedicated to supporting children, families, and individuals through inclusive, accessible, and empowering services. SFRC plays a key role in strengthening community resilience, promoting social inclusion, and delivering impactful programmes aligned with local and national priorities.
Role Overview
SFRC is seeking to appoint a Board Member to join its voluntary Board of Directors. This is an opportunity to contribute strategic oversight, governance, and leadership to a vital community organisation at an important stage of its development.
Board members play a critical role in ensuring the organisation operates effectively, sustainably, and in line with its mission, values, and regulatory obligations.
Key Responsibilities
As a Board Member, you will:
Governance & Oversight
- Ensure strong governance aligned with best practice and regulatory requirements
- Support compliance with the Charities Regulator and relevant frameworks
- Contribute to policy review, risk management, and decision-making
Strategic Direction
- Provide input into SFRC’s strategic planning and long-term sustainability
- Support key initiatives including programme development, partnerships, and potential organisational changes (e.g. mergers or collaborations)
- Act as a sounding board to the CEO/Manager and leadership team
Financial Stewardship
- Review budgets, financial reports, and funding strategies
- Ensure appropriate oversight of funding use and financial controls
Advocacy & Community Engagement
- Act as an ambassador for SFRC within the local community and wider networks
- Support stakeholder engagement, partnerships, and funding opportunities
Skills & Experience (Desirable)
We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly valuable:
- Governance / Board experience
- Finance, accountancy, or audit
- Legal or compliance
- Community development or social inclusion
- HR / People & Culture
- Strategy, transformation, or organisational development
- Public sector or nonprofit leadership

Time Commitment
- Board meetings: Typically 6–10 per year
- Additional committee or working group involvement (as required)
- Occasional events or strategic sessions
Remuneration
This is a voluntary (unpaid) position, in line with the governance model of community organisations. Reasonable expenses may be reimbursed where applicable.
