Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS) works to ensure that Deaf people can participate as full and equal citizens in Irish society, with easy access to quality sign language interpreting services.
SLIS is funded and supported by the Citizens Information Board (CIB), and is also tasked by the National Disability Inclusion Strategy 2017-2020, to support the social inclusion of Ireland’s Deaf community.
Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS) is seeking a board member with a Governance background to join our board. The candidate should ideally have high-level governance expertise and experience, and a knowledge of the not for profit or related sector.
The role is to advise and work closely with the Chairperson, board and management to ensure SLIS remains in compliance with corporate governance, the Charity Governance Code, and with funder regulations.
The role will be an internal source of advice and guidance to Board members on governance matters.
The role may involve the creation of a Governance and Risk sub-committee to ensure the board is advised as to effective and timely governance decisions and compliance.
This is an exciting opportunity as SLIS is currently developing a quality assurance and registration scheme for sign language interpreters, and will develop a new strategic plan and enhance governance processes, such as a risk register.
There are six board meetings per year held in the SLIS offices in the Deaf Village Ireland, Dublin 7. Sub- committee meetings are generally held four times per year.
