Clinical Board Member at turn2me: Focused on clinical standards and excellence aimed at transforming the delivery of online mental health in Ireland

We are seeking a Clinical Board Director who is a visionary in the online mental health space. In this voluntary role, you will be part of the board of trustees of the charity whose role is to oversee and ensure that the organisation complies with clinical and governance standards in the delivery of mental health care. You will also collaborate with the staff of turn2me, our board, our users, and key stakeholders and challenge processes, clinical and ethical standards to ensure the organisation is consistently focused on continuous improvement acting in the best interests of users and those who seek mental health support online.

You will have well-honed board management skills, are focused on overseeing clinical excellence and the use of technology to reach those who need support. Our organisation has grown and you will be part of the board of trustees tasked with overseeing the governance of the organisation and challenge when necessary to enable employees bring turn2me’s corporate strategy to life. 

Clinical Board Member role & expectations

turn2me wants to appoint a clinical board member for the charity which has 6 employees and a community of over 50 counsellors, and a volunteer network of 40 people.

The ideal candidate embraces the governance responsibilities of a board trustee and is an independent thinker, a mental health and technology innovator focused on clinical excellence and positive health outcomes for turn2me users.

2022 Goals

  • Launch paid-for counselling services, to go alongside the free counselling services.
  • Improve the support group attendee rates.

NOTE:

This voluntary role is available with immediate effect and requires a commitment to the organisation of two years. Note: be aware that this is a non-paid role.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a strong advocate for mental health and the delivery of mental health services in Ireland
  • Provide clinical governance guidance and counsel to the board of trustees and the organisation with a focus on best practice, user safety and health outcomes
  • Collaborate with turn2me’s Clinical Team foster a culture of best practise, clinical safety, impact of health outcomes,  innovation and excellence.
  • Attend and actively participate in board meetings and important related meetings when required.
  • Stay informed on key organisational and sectoral issues to enable open dialogue and discussion in the best interests of the organisation and mental health in Ireland
  • Comply and commit to the organisation’s code of conduct, governance code and standards
  • Participate actively in board and sub-committee roles and tasks as needed and on time.
  • Provide thoughtful executive leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering in a manner that supports and guides the organisation’s mission as defined by the Board of Trustees
  • Foster a collaborative working environment, encourage professional development, and champion accountability amongst trustees and turn2me colleagues
  • Communicate effectively with the Board by providing members with all information necessary to continually function properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner
  • Effectively represent the organisation and promote a positive organisational image to ensure adequate community representation
  • Organise, motivate, and mentor internal team leaders to strategically grow the organisation’s impact, programs, and fundraising, and to effectively fulfil its important mission
  • Apply innovative thinking and performance measurements to analyse and support strategic decision-making
  • Continually foster a culture that encourages collaboration between users, staff and counsellors and recognises positive contributions
  • Contribute to the strategic plan and drive its implementation

Please note that board meetings take place every six weeks via zoom. A board pack will be emailed to the successful candidate, and an introduction to the CEO, the Clinical Manager and the rest of the board will be made after the board appointment.

ABOUT turn2me:

Turn2me (www.turn2me.org / www.turn2me.ie) is a registered charity operating in the e-mental healthcare space, its goal is to provide low cost or no cost mental health support online to people all over Ireland. The organisation was founded in 2009 stemming from the very personal experiences of Oisin and Diarmuid Scollard, who lost their brother, Cormac, to suicide in 2003. They had the vision to create a space for people to get professional support online.  In 2013 turn2me gained the support of the HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention to deliver counselling online. In 2019 turn2me joined forces with ReachOut Ireland to create a space for young people to find information to support their mental health online. The organisation is pivoting to reinvent itself to prepare for a post-pandemic world, meet the needs of vulnerable groups in Ireland to reduce the number of lives lost through suicide. It is built on a foundation of clinical and technological excellence so that services are delivered at the right time to those who need it most.
