Threshold, the national housing charity, seeks to appoint new members to its Board of Directors. Established in 1978, Threshold’s aim is to secure a right to housing, particularly for low income families and single people in housing need all over Ireland. Threshold aims to achieve this through:
- Providing advice and advocacy services for people who are renting
- Preventing homelessness via the national Tenancy Protection Service
- Providing long-term solutions for people who are homeless
- Analysing existing problems and seeking innovative approaches and solutions through the promotion of policy, informed by the evidence from our services
Threshold is a frontline advice and advocacy service for people with housing problems and people at risk of homelessness. Equally, we are a respected media and policy commentator and influencer on housing policy with particular expertise in the Private Rented Sector. Our service is free, independent and confidential. In 2018, Threshold took 76,000 calls from people renting, and carried out over 67,000 actions in relation to client cases, including advice, advocacy on behalf of tenants and the protection of renters’ homes across Ireland. Threshold’s Board of Directors leads the organisation while delegating the day-to-day management to the Chief Executive Officer and the executive.
The board is responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation and to ensure scrutiny and oversight. Board members are required to act in the best interest of Threshold, providing insight and relevant skills. Challenging and supporting the CEO and executive team regarding the delivery of strategic objectives are core activities of the Board. Members of the Board are expected to be prepared for meetings and to make a reasonable time commitment to the work of the Board and its Committees.
If you have expertise in law, finance, social sciences research and / or policy, non-profit housing, fundraising or human resources management then this is an opportunity to participate in the Board of the leading charity assisting tenants in the Private Rented Sector. We are looking for individuals to play an active role in shaping the strategic direction of Threshold. Members of the Board are not remunerated but are entitled to claim travel and subsistence allowances in accordance with Government guidelines. You can find out more about Threshold from our website www.threshold.ie
