St Michaels Credit Union Limited (SMCU) is a local not for profit institution with over 13,000 members within the common bond of Blackrock & Mahon. The ongoing growth of St Michaels Credit Union is testament to the communities in which we operate, the members, the savers, the borrowers, the volunteers and all those who have supported our organisation since 1963 .St Michaels Credit Union is very proud of our heritage and our social dividend supports to the local communities we serve.

With the recent closure of more local “pillar “bank branches - St Michaels Credit Union provides a key role as a financial services provider within our common bond that remains open to serve the needs of our communities. We want to continue to be there for our communities and our members.

St Michaels Credit Union exists only to serve its members  -not to profit from their needs. Surplus income is returned to our members in the form of dividends/loan rebates or is directed to improved additional services for our members and to community supports  

St Michaels Credit Union is now seeking Directors to join our volunteer Board.

We seek capable individuals who can bring their energy, enthusiasm , experiences and commitment to the promotion and growth of SMCU.

This is also an opportunity for anyone seeking to gain valuable hands-on board experience on their CV experiences.

Elected by the members the Board of directors is responsible for the control, strategic direction, and Governance of St Michaels Credit Union. The Board meets on a monthly basis and at least 10 times in a 12-month period. (currently virtually).

Directors will be required to commit an investment of their time and focus to the role. We recognise the role is voluntary and any appointed member will receive mentoring support and training .Learning and personal development is a very important part of being involved. This helps grow your skills coupled with your existing knowledge which assists in decision making that help the credit union.

We have a role that is suitable for people of all ages, backgrounds and experiences.

 Eligible applicants must hold the “Common Bond” – i.e  must be an existing member OR live, OR Study , OR work in our communities.

Having people who live or work in the community involved helps credit unions remain voted as one of the most trusted organisations in Ireland every year.

The benefits of volunteering are very rewarding , you will gain new friendships, use your existing skills, learn new ones and know you are enhancing the lives and financial wellbeing of our members and our supports to the community. Our team of volunteers without whom we cannot function enables St Michaels Credit Union to continue to be there for the communities we serve in Blackrock , Mahon and environs..
